Re: Best method for recovering a Core server in Disaster Recovery scenario

What we do - NOT APPROVED BY LANDESK:

1. We have a DR site away from our principle computer center

2. We have ESX Host servers at both locations

3. We backup the Virtual Machines (CORE and SQL Server) to the DR Site on a regular basis

4. In the event of a catastrophe we activate those VMs and make the necessary interconnect changes

   - This effectively moves the core and SQL server to the new location

5. We have a second core (that is not linked to any other core) at the DR site for imaging

  - During the first hours between losing the prime site and activating the core server and DB we can provision new PCs using the side core and a preferred server

This process is tested annually and worked during the last series of DR testing. VMware FTW.

- Couple that with a CITRIX VDI and you can be up and running post DR quite quickly.
