Re: Filter "Add Configuration Item" in Change

Danielle,

I replied earlier about the quirky way the search is executed in the Add Configuration Item (that you enter the criteria - but it is not until you click a column header that the list is filtered). I did not notice that it was me that said we had search working on the Incident Window. In fact we do - it is a bit different than Change - I am not sure how OOTB this is because the original setup is when we had a LANDesk consultant helping. But it looks like this:

* We link only 1 CI to the Incident - so it is not a collection, we pick the CI Type and then search within the Type for the specific CI.

* See the attachment - our Analyst Incident window (we only allow the Analyst in Web Desk to add the CI - I have no idea of how this may or may not work if you want customers to add the CI).

* Notice that there is a Query/Filter set on the Configuration field. The following screen shot is the query that is used:

* The query makes sense - that is is filtered by the Type. What I don;t really understand is how the query knows about the "Remove User Link" - it works but I am not really sure how. If you are not familiar - that little checkbox limits the results to ONLY objects where the CI is Linked to the User (for example - his PC - so when checked the query is limited to only linked workstations). When unchecked the result list is all CI's of the type (i.e. All workstations can be selected if the check is removed).

* I don't know yet what makes it searchable - I haven't really play with it. I suspect it is a reference list of sorts - it works the same as say the User drop down. If I click in the field I get a scroll-able list and as I type the list is narrowed for any items that contain the text i'm typing. So - there must be a property either in the window, the CI object - or the query that controls why it works like a reference list - but I do not know this.

I'd be happy to hear (I think I have tried to modify the query previously - making a new one that looks as identical as I can tell - just with more columns (like disposition) - but if I recall it did not search then. My guess was something in the query - but not that I can tell.

Good luck hunting - let me know how different or the same your setup is.

Terry
